After testing and earning this rank new challenges are ahead. after they have a good basic understanding and can preform with minimum help, they will be invited to test for next rank of Yellow.
Stances
Flamingo
The flamingo is great at core development. It has two purposes, as a balance drill and development of strong kicks. Kicks should typically have two flamingos one before and one after the kick.
Attention Stance
Standing in a front position for long periods of time while great at character development, can be tedious. Instructors often move students into the attention stance during long talks or explanations. Students should remain still and respectful.
Skills
Pivot to the Rear
Pivot, half-moon backward then pivot again, you will have turned around and now have the opposite foot in front. Pivot on the balls of the feet, allowing the heels to slightly raise off the floor. Head should remain same height throughout. Knees bent, with feet pointing forward. Both feet rotate at the same time. Watch out for pointing one foot towards the new direction during the half-moon.
Pit-a-Pat
A flow drill that combines forward and outward blocks with a grab. Flow drills are meant for 2 students working together alternating punching with self defense techniques. Student should be able to Bunkai Pit-a-Pat, like the next video.
Pit-a-Pat Bunkai
A cooperative drill, requiring a smooth punch from the feeder, since this skill flows back and forth, both students get max amounts of reps in a short period. Kids pick up on this drill quickly as it’s fun when applied to a verbal counterpart with a rhythm.
Line Drill
Step-Drag, Jab-Cross
Step Drag, back foot is loaded then launches forward. Time the jab to be thrown shortly after lead foot lands. The jab is thrown while rear knee relaxes and heel pulls up. Keep weight centered.
Kempo
Kempo 2
Kids love Kempo two – what’s not to like, a strong forward block followed by a Spear Hand Poke that ends with a Hammer Strike with an Outward Shuto thrown in for fun. Teaches rotation with counter rotation develops dexterity due to the constant hand shape changes.
Kempo 2 Bunkai
The key is to move out of defensive posture when throwing the block. The feeder needs to be in range, this Kempo slips the punch with a quick block the 2nd and 3rd strike are delivered to the neck, and final hammer strike to nose or forehead
Kata
Outward Blocks
Outward blocks differ somewhat from forward blocks. Watch the video for now, I’ll come up with some pointers soon. This video has the attack coming from 12 o’clock, so a helping hand (mid forward block) is utilized prior to the outward block. I like to think the mid forward block makes contact first then the outward block redirects the punch to the desired location.
