Kids Low Yellow Belt

After testing and earning this rank new challenges are ahead. after they have a good basic understanding and can preform with minimum help, they will be invited to test for next rank of Yellow Strike.

Stances

Guard

Guard Stance, the default is left guard, meaning left foot in front. Hands are in a guard position. Tight fists, elbows in, fist at chin height. Feet are wide, not deep. Both feet facing straight forward. If left foot is in front then the left hand is further out than the right.

Defensive Posture

The guard stance can intimidate or escalate situations, we teach our self defense techniques from a defensive position. Feet are together, while the knees are bent and the weight is slightly forward, allowing fast lateral movement.

Skills

Break Falls and Get Ups

One of the most important things to teach – falling down safely. The wrist is very fragile, when falling backwards fall on the bottom, not the wrist.

Step Drag

Feet are always straight, knees are bent, lead foot moves an inch or three, then the rear foot catches up – keeping the same width and depth.

Belt Tying

The belt is to be put on inside the dojo after arriving. When training is done, students respectfully fold it before being excused. Treat your belt with respect.

Line Drill

Front Kick, land forward Punch

It’s a kick not a step. The knee should rise higher than the belt and be close to the body before the kick is delivered then after the knee returns back towards the body before being returned to the floor.

Kempo

Kempo 1 to the Air

Combines, Defensive Posture, Movement, Mid Forward Blocks, Flamingo Stance, Kicks, and striking. In one self defense technique. During the test the bunkai version is expected.

Kempo 1 Bunkai

Working with a partner who is feeding punches. All strikes are controlled. The student who is feeding should have the attitude that they are helping the student doing the kempo. the student doing the Kempo should make light contact.

Kata

Jab Cross

Two punches thrown quickly, the lead hand is the quick jab, followed by a stronger punch that has full rotation while dropping into the punch without leaning forward, this happens by relaxing the knee, and raising the heel. It is frequently used with a step drag to close distance.
