Adult White Belt

When you have a good basic understanding and can perform these skill with minimum help you will be invited to test for your Yellow Belt.

Stances

Front Position

Right hand forms a fist meaning power and confidence, left hand is open meaning peace. Knees are slightly bent, feet are together.

Half Moon

Half-Moon Stance, the default is Left half-moon, meaning left foot in front. Hands are chambered. Feet are wide, not deep. Both feet facing straight forward.

Horse Stance

A traditional martial arts stance, promoting rotational power. Helps dexterity, balance and requires focus. The stance is uncomfortable, by design. Knees bent, back straight, hands on chamber.

Guard

Guard Stance, the default is left guard, meaning left foot in front. Hands are in a guard position. Tight fists, elbows in, fist at chin height. Feet are wide, not deep. Both feet facing straight forward. If left foot is in front then the left hand is further out than the right.

Defensive Posture

The guard stance can intimidate or escalate situations, we teach our self defense techniques from a defensive position. Feet are together, while the knees are bent and the weight is slightly forward, allowing fast lateral movement.

Skills

Right Foot Out On Elbows

Bow, step out right, hands double overhead cross-block lower into horse stance. Hands on chamber. Hold this position until further instructions. On the instruction “Up” return to front position, right foot meeting left.

Half Mooning

Start in left half-moon stance, Right foot meets left then continues forward, ball of foot should rub the floor, ends in right half-moon stance. The stance is wide not deep. Feet are pointing forward. Head does not rise or fall.

Shuffle

One foot moves in towards the other as it slides out in kind. Feet will maintain a shoulder width distance, and both feet will point forward. Slight bend in knees with a straight back.

Break Fall Get Up

One of the most important things to teach – falling down safely. The wrist is very fragile, when falling backwards fall on the bottom, not the wrist.

Jab Cross

Two punches thrown quickly, the lead hand is the quick jab, followed by a stronger punch that has full rotation while dropping into the punch without leaning forward, this happens by relaxing the knee, and raising the heel. It is frequently used with a step drag to close distance.

Line Drill

Front Kick, Land Forward, Triple Front Punch

Start in left half-moon stance, rear leg will throw a front ball kick then land forward, then throw a front punch. Continue the length of the dojo or room. This drill can be done backwards as well.

(Stay Tuned for video)

Step Drag Jab Cross

Done from a left or right guard stance, Use a step-drag to move slightly forward then throw a Jab followed by a cross. This drill can be done backwards as well.

Kempo

Feeding Punches

Feeding Punches, is used in partner drills. One student will feed Right and Left punches while another does Kempo’s. During partnered practice the speed of the punch should be 1/4 speed. However when done to the “air” or to a bag the punches are fast and powerful.

Kempo 1 to the air

Combines, Defensive Posture, Movement, Mid Forward Blocks, Flamingo Stance, Kicks, and striking. In one self defense technique. During the test the bunkai version is expected.

Kempo 1 Bunkai

Working with a partner who is feeding punches. All strikes are controlled. The student who is feeding should have the attitude that they are helping the student doing the kempo. the student doing the Kempo should make light contact.

Kempo 2 to the air

Kids love Kempo two – what’s not to like, a strong forward block followed by a Spear Hand Poke that ends with a Hammer Strike with an Outward Shuto thrown in for fun. Teaches rotation with counter rotation develops dexterity due to the constant hand shape changes.

Kempo 2 Bunki

The key is to move out of defensive posture when throwing the block. The feeder needs to be in range, this Kempo slips the punch with a quick block the 2nd and 3rd strike are delivered to the neck, and final hammer strike to nose or forehead
